Malcolm McBratney’s distinguished legal career began at Clayton Utz, where he practised for seven years before joining McCullough Robertson. At McCullough Robertson, he was instrumental in establishing and leading the new Intellectual Property Group, achieving partnership just days after his 28th birthday, making him one of the firm’s youngest partners ever.
After over three decades honed at top-tier law firms, Malcolm founded McBratney Law in January 2022. What began as a solo endeavour swiftly grew, propelled by Malcolm’s widespread reputation for delivering high-quality legal work and pragmatic advice. His vision for McBratney Law was to create a streamlined, client-focused practice, free from the significant overheads and inherent delays often found in larger firms, while uncompromising on quality or service. A core principle of McBratney Law, distinguishing it from Malcolm’s “big law” background, is his direct accessibility to clients.
Malcolm’s influence extends beyond his firm. He is a highly sought-after speaker on Intellectual Property and commercial law, frequently presenting to industry and business organisations.
Outside of his professional life, Malcolm is dedicated to his family, prioritising school runs for his daughter. He also enjoys cultivating various types of chilli trees and possesses a keen interest in both historical and modern architectural design.
